    August Louis Armstrong’s BirthdayLouis Armstrong’s Birthday – 4th August, 2016

    Louis Armstrong was a famous American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. To celebrate the birthday of Louis Armstrong the children will be listening to some of his famous songs and other jazz music during circle time, whilst discussing how it makes them feel. The children will also be making their own musical instruments using different materials to explore different sounds.

    Summer Olympics 2016 Rio begins – 5th August 2016August Summer Olympics 2016 Rio begins

    This year’s Summer Olympics is being held in the city of Rio in Brazil. The Summer Olympics is a major international multi-sport event in the tradition of the Olympic Games which 100’s of countries take part in, including 28 types of sport. Throughout August the children will be making Olympic torches and medals and will be practicing different Olympic Games in preparation for our own Olympic Games Ceremony on Friday 26th August, 2016.

    EVENTS_Jeans for Genes DayJeans for Genes Day – 5th August, 2016

    Jeans for Genes is a charity set up to support the work of the children’s medical research institute who research into genetic defects and childhood diseases in order to give children a better chance of a healthy and happy life. We will be holding our own fundraising event to raise money for the charity by bringing £1.00 to wear jeans to nursery for the day. We will also become designers for the day and create our own jeans.

    World Cat Day – 8th August, 2016EVENTS_World Cat Day

    World Cat Day brings awareness and information about how cats give both love and companionship to their owners. To celebrate the love for our pets the children we would like the children to share photographs of their pet or their favourite animal. We will also be visiting our local pet shop to say hello to the local pets.

    EVENTS_Play in the Sand DayPlay in the Sand Day – 11th August, 2016

    To celebrate this fun day, we would like the children to come to nursery dressed in their beach wear ready for a fun themed day at the beach! We will be building sandcastles, playing with water, learning the hula dance and of course enjoying a nice cold ice cream.

     

    International Left Handers Day – 13th August, 2016EVENTS_International Left Handers Day

    We will be celebrating International Lefthanders Day to promote awareness of how being left handed can be challenging in a predominantly right handed world. We will be having a fun day called ‘Left handed zone’; the children will have a challenge set for the day to only use their left hand!

    EVENTS_Independence Day Pakistan and IndiaIndependence Day Pakistan and India – 14th August, 2016

    India and Pakistan Independence Day commemorates the Independence of Pakistan from Britain in 1947. Celebrations include flag hoisting, parades, singing and award ceremonies. The children will be making a large 3D flag and will be designing their own kites.
