Bodhi Day – 8th December, 2016

Bodhi Day is the Buddhist day of remembrance and mediation. Celebrations include lights strung about the home to recognize the day of enlightenment, these are turned on each evening from 8th December and for 30 days thereafter. Homes are also decorated with fiscus tree decorated with multi-colored lights. The children will be creating their own fiscus multi-colored trees.

 

Bobble Hat Day – 9th December, 2016

On 4th December we will be raising money for NSPCC by becoming bobble hat heroes! We would like the children and the Team to wear their quirkiest, silliest or favorite hat; this can also be a Christmas hat and bring £1.00 to raise money for NSPCC charities. The children will also be designing their own hats using different art materials.

 

International Mountain Day – 11th December, 2016

Mountain Day is celebrated annually to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain people's and environments around the world. The children will be learning about what products are produced from mountains, such as coffee, cocoa, honey, herbs and spices. We will be looking at different worldwide mountains such as Mount Everest, creating our own mountain structures and taking part in an experiment to make a volcano eruption.

 

 

Monkey Day – 14th December, 2016

Monkey day is celebrated internationally to raise awareness for animals, and to share the love and care for them. The day is celebrated for other non-human primates such as Apes, Tarsiers and Lemurs.To celebrate this fun day the children will be 'monkeying around' and can come to nursery dressed as a Monkey. We will be making animal masks and looking at the habitats of Monkeys, Apes and Lemurs.

 Christmas Jumper Day – 16th December, 2016

The ITV Text SANTA charity has now teamed up with 'Macmillan Cancer Support', 'Make a Wish' and 'Save the Children' to make Christmas Jumper Day bigger and better! This special day is celebrated and encouraged to 'make the world better with a sweater'.We would like the Children and Team to wear a Christmas jumper or decorate a jumper to wear to nursery and bring a £1.00 donation for the charities.

 

Winter Solstice – 22nd December, 2016

In the Northern hemisphere the December solstice marks the longest night and the shortest day of the year. Meanwhile In the Southern hemisphere, they experience the longest day and the shortest night.The practitioners will demonstrate the winter solstice to the children using torches to shine on the world globe while it slowly spins to represent light and darkness. The children will then be creating their own light and dark world pictures.

 

Christmas Celebrations – December, 2016

Throughout the month of December the children will be taking part in Christmas festivities, and will be taking part in creative arts and crafts. We will be learning about special Christmas dates and what celebrations happen during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

 

The Children have a very exciting month to look forward too. They will be making 'Wish Lists' to send to Father Christmas through our magical north pole post box, getting messy creating 'Tip Toe'  and 'Thumb' Christmas tree cards, exploring with 'snow dough' and making salt dough decorations to put on their Christmas tree. We will also be making our own stockings and 'Santa stop here' door hangers for the children to place on their bedroom doors on Christmas Eve for Father Christmas! We will be making our own nativity scene and looking at the story of baby Jesus. There will be lots of Christmas cheer, glitter and excitement over December.
