    events_black-history-monthBlack History Month – 1st – 31st October, 2016

    Black History Month aims to promote knowledge of black history, culture and heritage and to disseminate information on positive black contributions to British society.

    To celebrate Black History Month the children will be exploring the famous story ‘Handas Surprise’, making African masks, exploring their senses using spices, painting self-portraits using different colours to explore skin tones and setting up their own Caribbean hairdressers.

     

    The People’s Republic of China – 1st October, 2016events_the-peoples-republic-of-china

    The People’s Republic of China has been celebrated since 1949 throughout mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Celebrations include fireworks and concerts and a ceremony at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

    The children will be making Chinese decorated plates and will be creating a ‘Great wall of friendship’. We will enjoy a Chinese themed tea to celebrate The People’s Republic of China.

     

    events_world-animal-dayWorld Animal Day – 4th October

    This year’s mission for World Animal Day is to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.

    To celebrate World Animal Day the children will be learning about endangered animals from around the world and what we can do to keep them safe. The children will be making animal masks and creating their own small world animal habitats.

     

    World Space Week – 4th -10th October, 2016events_world-space-week

    World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition which is celebrated each year.

    The children will be learning about the planets in the solar system, and taking part in some exciting activities, such as making papier Mache planets, making glittery playdough to make planets and aliens, making spaceships and rockets using junk modelling and learning the ‘planets songs’ to recognise the order of planets from the sun.

     

    events_no-pens-wednesdayNo Pens Wednesday – 5th October, 2016

    No Pens Wednesday encourages schools and nurseries to put down their pens and to run a day of speaking and listening activities. The children will be exploring using their senses indoors and outdoors, taking part in role play and drama games and of course getting very messy with their hands!

     

    Battle of Hastings – 14th October, 2016events_battle-of-hastings

    The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of Duke William II of Normandy and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson, beginning the Norman conquest of England.

    The children will be learning about the history of the battle of Hastings and will be making their own shields and armour.

     

    events_diwaliDiwali – 30th October, 2016

    Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, which represents the eternal triumph of light over darkness or the victory of good over evil.  During Diwali houses and shops are decorated with oil lamps to honour Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Gifts are exchanged, houses are cleaned and rangoli patterns are drawn on the floor.

    To celebrate Diwali the children will be making their own lanterns, creating rangoli patterns with coloured rice and tasting a selection of dried fruits

     

    Halloween – 31st October, 2016events_halloween

    To celebrate Halloween we will be making Halloween decorations and we will be visiting the local supermarket to buy pumpkins.

    The children will carve the pumpkins with the team and explore the sensory experience of the inside of a pumpkin. We would like the children, team and parents to dress up in their best Halloween costumes, for our spooky Halloween party on Monday 31st October, 2016 at 3.45pm.
