Dear Parents and Carers of our Worcester Park, Kingston and Stoneleigh Nurseries,

We hope the first month of 2019 has been a fantastic one for you. During January the Children have enjoyed learning about climate change this month and have been linking this into cold water animals, which they have really enjoyed. They had the opportunity to explore with Ice, and have enjoyed finding ice patches on the floor around the garden. The Children also enjoyed problem solving activities such as puzzles.

Our Topics in February 2019

As we enter into February, we have a variety of different winter activities planned for the children. Please take a look at what the children will be learning about each week…

Winter Term

The children will be celebrating and recognising these special dates during February.

5th February Chinese New Year

7th February – Charles Dickens birthday

9th – 25th February Winter Olympics

14th Valentine’s Day

17th International Kindness Day

 

Week 1 – ‘Seasonal Changes’

The children will be celebrating Chinese New Year on the 5th February, 2019 the year of the pig. The children will be making their own pig masks using paper plates. They be tasting Chinese dishes and exploring noodle play using chopsticks. The children will also be designing their own lanterns.

Week 2 – ‘Valentine’s Day’

During the second week of February, the children will celebrating Valentine’s Day, thinking about the people they love around them. The children will be making their families cards and heart shaped biscuits. They will also be making heart arts and crafts using paper plates and glitter as well, as their own flower bouquet pictures using tissue paper.

Week 3 – ‘Sports Week’

To celebrate ‘Winter Olympics’ from 9th – 25th February the children will enjoy a mix of sports at the Nursery. The children will take part in circle games, parachute games, obstacle courses and soft ball games and hoop toss. The children will also be creating their own bronze, silver and gold medals.

Week 4 ‘Our body’   

This week we will be learning all about our body. We will be looking at the differences in our hands by creating hand print trees and drawing around our hands, focusing on the size and shape. The children will be exploring how the body moves by demonstrating different movements during physical activities.

 

Parent/Carer Partnership – Reminders and Notable Dates:

Security of Nursery Front Door

 

Please can we emphasise the importance of ensuring the front door is closed properly when entering and leaving the building. Can we also please remind all Parents and Carers to clearly state their names and who they are collecting when requesting entry to Nurseries.

This is for the safety of all the children.






Weather and Outdoor Clothing

 

Can I please remind Parents/carers that garden/outdoor play is part of our curriculum and our daily routine, of course we do not want to exclude children from activities as per our inclusion policy. Therefore please ensure your child/children have warm outdoor clothing, including a warm waterproof coat, a scarf and gloves and suitable footwear.

Holidays and Absences

Please can we remind all Parents/Carers to email the nursery in advance with any holiday dates or absences. If your child is unwell and cannot attend their session, we also require this in an email. This is required under our Prevent Duty safeguarding requirements.
