Dear Parents and Carers of our Worcester Park and Kingston Nurseries,

We would like to thank all the Parents/Carers that joined us for our October Parents Morning; it was lovely to see so many of you and to share your child/ren’s special moments with you all.

The children have had a great month exploring the Harvest Festival and the seasonal changes as the days become shorter and the weather gets colder. The children really enjoyed sharing their family photographs and, of course, had a fantastic time dressing up for our Halloween party!

As we enter into November the children will be exploring and celebrating Bonfire Night, World Science Day, Remembrance Day, Children In Need, Thanksgiving and St Andrews Day.

Bonfire Night

To celebrate Bonfire Night the children will be using different art resources to make their own sparkly and glittery firework creations. The children will enjoy the sensory experience of making glittery playdough and exploring with reflective materials and light. The children will also be making their own splatter fireworks using the ‘flick’ technique and with recycled spray bottles filled with sparkly paint, and they will make their own rockets using cardboard toilet roll holders. We will also be focusing on the story book ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’.

World Science Day

The children will take part in World Science Day and will be carrying out a variety of science experiments, from changing colours and exploring light and dark.

Remembrance Day

To celebrate Remembrance Day the children will be visiting our local supermarket to purchase their own poppies. The children will then be designing their own poppies using paint to create fingerprint effects, tissue paper and lots of glitter to make poppy wreaths. They will also enjoy the sensory experience of exploring real petals. To mark the occasion of remembering the soldiers, the children will also be learning the song and dance to ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’.

Children in Need

This year to celebrate and raise money for Children In Need we will be hosting a Pyjama Day. We would like the team and children to come to nursery in their cosiest pyjamas and slippers and bring a small donation of £1.00 to raise money for the charity Children In Need. The children will be making their own Pudsey ears and eye patches to wear and will be designing a life size picture of Pudsey Bear together. To raise money the children will be making cakes and biscuits to sell on the afternoon of Friday 17th November, 2017.

Thanksgiving and St Andrews Day

To celebrate Thanksgiving the children will be creating Thanksgiving cards. The children will also have the opportunity to set up their own dinner party in the role play area and be the host!

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day the children will be making their own tartan crafts and will enjoy dancing to music playing the bagpipes. The children will also be making their own Lock Ness Nessie small world area.

Reminders

Dropping your children to nursery

We have currently been trialling a rolling breakfast over the last couple of weeks and would like to remind Parents of the following arrangements:

  • When dropping your child to nursery, from now on please drop them straight to their childcare room.
  • When your child arrives at the nursery, they can now join the breakfast table and enjoy their breakfast from 7.30am until 8.45am.

Things to try at home

  • Pudsey Bear Masks – Use a paper plate to create a Pudsey face, and cut out holes for the eyes.
  • Using recycled drink bottles, fill with water and add food colouring and glitter to make sensory bottles.
