Stars July newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers of our Kingston and Worcester Park Nurseries,

Welcome to our newsletter for July 2017.

June was an exciting month of summer for the children. They celebrated Butterfly Education and Awareness Day, Healthy Eating Week and the Summer Solstice. It was also Father’s Day, which saw the children using their craftsmanship by making ‘dad socks’ and special crowns.

In July, the children will be exploring many international holidays like Canada day and Independence Day, and the children will make maple leaf shapes and their own Statue of Liberty crowns in celebration.

    1 July - Canada Day

Canada day.jpegTo kick off the month, we celebrate Canada Day. The children will be making maple leaf shapes and patriotic paper chains to decorate the nursery, and will learn some Canadian folk songs such as ‘Dip, Dip and Swing’, ‘Land of the Silver Birch’ and ‘They All Call it Canada’.

    1 – 23 July - Tour de France

Tour de France is taking place throughout most of July, and to celebrate the children will design their own Tour de France t-shirt posters and explore the different modes of transport. The children will be talking about the Tour de France during our French lesson, too, learning how to say words like ‘race’ and ‘bike’ in French.

    4 July - Independence Day

Independence day.jpegTo celebrate American independence, the children will be making blue and red wands and their own Statue of Liberty crowns. They’ll also get to take part in a variety of American ball games in the garden, such as basketball.

10 July - Teddy Bear Picnic Day

To celebrate Teddy Bear Picnic Day, the children will be having a picnic tea on Monday 10th July 2017 with some of their nursery teddy bear friends.

We would like the children to bring their favourite teddy bear to nursery to join them for our garden picnic. We will be having a competition for the ‘best dressed bear’, ‘the smallest bear’, ‘the biggest bear’ and ‘the cutest bear’.

    14 July - Bastille Day

Bastille day.jpegThe French theme continues this month with Bastille Day. To celebrate, we’ll be hosting a French tea party on Friday 14th July 2017. The children will be making French paper dolls using toilet roll cardboards and will be listening to traditional French music.

    17 July - Disneyland Opened

In 1955, Disneyland opened its gates to the public, bringing joy to children everywhere. To celebrate the anniversary of its opening, we would like the children and the team to come to nursery dressed as their favorite Disney character on Monday 17th July, 2017.

The children will be painting our favourite Disney characters, reading Disney story books and listening to our favourite Disney music.

24 July - Summer sports day

To recognise all the sporting events taking place this month, such as Tour de France and Wimbledon, we will be holding our own mini Sports Day. The children will practice their tennis skills and will work in groups to win an egg and spoon race! This event will begin at 3.45pm – 4.30pm. If you would like to attend, please email your nursery to confirm your attendance by Friday 21st July 2017.

30 July - International Day of Friendship

Dayoffriendship.jpegFriendship is one of the most important things in the world, and on 30th July the children will celebrate International Day of Friendship. They’ll get to create friendship bracelets and cards to give to their friends, and they will learn a special friendship song.

    Kingston – Friday 28th July, 2017

We would like to take a moment to thank all Parents/Carers for letting us know their preferred date for the Pre-School Academy’s Graduation Ceremony. The Ceremony will commence at 3.45pm with a performance from the Pre-Schoolers, followed by graduation and then a party. There is a maximum of 2 guests per child. Reminders

Please can I kindly remind Parents:

    • To bring in a factor 50 sun screen clearly labelled with your child’s name and the date of purchase, and a suitable hat that shields the back and front of the head so the children can play safely in the garden.
    • To inform your Nursery Manager if you are not receiving email communications, so we can ensure we have the correct email for you.
    • We have a 'no mobile phone' policy at the nurseries. Please do not accept calls in the nursery, this is in line with our safeguarding policy as many phones have a camera. If you need to take a call, please take this outside the nursery.
    • Please ensure the front door is shut properly behind you on your way in and way out.
    • If a grandparent or another familiar person is collecting your child, please let us know before they turn up. Even if we have met them previously, we still cannot release your child without your permission.

    Activities to continue at home

    • Encourage healthy eating using the teddy bear picnic theme. For example, ‘Teddy’s favourite snack is a banana, what is your favourite fruit?’
    • Explore colour recognition by using different paints to create the flags for Canada, America and France.
    • Practice French activities at home, which are provided to you every month from our French teacher.
