Stars June newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers of our Kingston and Worcester Park Nurseries,

Welcome to our newsletter for June 2017.

May brought us Children's Book Week, International Day of Families and the start of Ramadan. In June we have Butterfly Education and Awareness Day, Healthy Eating week and Fathers' day to look forward to, among many other exciting activities.

    National Safety month

This month the children will be learning about how to keep themselves safe in different environments and situations such as fire safety, remembering to ask for permission, approaching dogs, crossing the road safely and how to stop germs spreading. They will also be distinguishing between ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ items.

3 June - UEFa Champions league final

To celebrate the UEFA Champions League final the children will be designing their own football teams, and having a mini match in the garden. We will also be organising a football-themed tea party for Fathers' Day.

    4 june - Pentecost

To celebrate Pentecost, the children will make ‘wind socks’ and paper windmills to represent the Holy Spirit as it appeared as ‘wind’ to the disciples. They will also be making dove symbols using feathers.

5 june - Butterfly education and awareness day

To raise awareness for Butterfly Education Day we will be purchasing our own live butterfly garden. The children can watch the caterpillars make their cocoons, push through and grow into butterflies. We will then release them into our garden.

12-16 june - Healthy eating week

During Healthy Eating Week the children will have the opportunity to assist preparing morning snacks with supervision. The children will also be making a healthy eating collage poster and will be printing with different vegetables and fruits.

16 june - save the children Den day

To support the ‘Save the Children’ charity, the children will be making their own dens and will learn about the importance of shelters for children in deprived countries.

    18 june - fathers' day

To celebrate Fathers' Day the children will be making different crafts such as frames, ‘Dad socks’ and a special crown for ‘King Daddy’. We will be holding a football-themed tea party and would like to invite all the Fathers or any other significant person in your child’s life.

    20 June - Summer Solstice

To see in the Summer Solstice the children will be learning about the sun, the moon and day and night. They will be making their own ‘sun crafts’ and sunflowers. We will also be encouraging the children to share their experiences of their summer holiday. We will be introducing a ‘holiday bear’ which the children will name. The children will have the opportunity to take the bear on holiday with them and capture their best moments in the special book.

    26 JUNE - Eid-ul-fitr

To celebrate Eid-ul-fitr, the end of Ramadan, the children will be making their own ‘new moons’. The children will be making colorful decorations to decorate their nursery room, and can wear their favorite outfit to nursery for the celebration.

Fathers' day football-themed tea party - friday 16th june

We would like to invite all Fathers or any other significant person in your child’s life to attend a football-themed Fathers tea party on Friday 16th June, 2017 at 3.45pm. If you would like to attend please email your nursery on worcesterpark@starsdaynursery.co.uk or kingston@starsdaynursery.co.uk by Friday 9th June to confirm your attendance. Please be aware there is a maximum of two guests per child.

    Our Summer bear

We will be introducing a ‘summer bear’ which the children will have the opportunity to take on holiday with them and capture their special moments. The children will be naming the bear once they have met him. We would like parents to take photographs of the bear on their holiday with them and take a few minutes to create a diary entry in the bear’s special book.

We will then share this with the rest of the class, and see how many places our bear can visit this year! If you would like to book the bear out, please speak to your Room Leaders and we will let you know.

    eid-ul-fitr

To celebrate Eid Ul Fitr the children are welcome to attend nursery in their favourite outfit to take part in the celebrations.

    Reminders

    Please can I remind Parents:

    • To bring in a factor 50 sun screen clearly labelled with your child’s name and the date of purchase, and a suitable hat that shields the back and front of the head so the children can play safely in the garden.
    • Please let your Nursery Manager know if you are not receiving email communications, so we can ensure we have the correct email for you.
    • We have a 'no mobile phone' policy at the nursery – please do not accept calls in the nursery, this is in line with our safeguarding policy as majority of phones have a camera. If you need to take a call, please take this outside the nursery.
    • Please ensure the front door is shut properly behind you on your way in and way out.
    • Please ensure if a grandparent or another familiar person is collecting your child to let us know before they turn up. If we have met them previously we will still not be able to release your child without your permission.

    Activities to continue at home

    • Use cardboard boxes to make a den in the garden, use masking tape to attach them creating a tunnel for Save the Children ‘Den Day’.
    • Remember to take our teddy bear away on holiday with you and record your adventure in our special book.
    • For Butterfly Awareness Day, why not visit Wisely Butterfly Garden for a great day out!
